Today’s era has brought wonders in inventions and technology and its use to improve the lives of each of one of us. From the medical field, energy matters, weapons and artillery and even to hobbies and sports, changes have surfaced and have affected the natural way that we do things. Some changes are for the better and a few had worsened situations. But all in all, we can surely say that innovations make one’s life different.

Fishing for example had leaped great lengths as part of the human race. Fishing is commonly used to sustain hunger and provide good meat at dinner tables. But now, it is considered as a hobby and sport for the luxurious and nature loving people. Fly fishing, a branch of this sport uses different bait rather than worms, little fish or other biological and alive bait. Here, we use fly fishing flies – artificial, insect like creations that are made from straw, plastic and yarn of different shades and luster. By using this materials and binding them with thin copper or stainless wires, imitations of certain species of insects are formed. They prove to be more interesting than the live versions because of their rich color.

There are a lot of reasons why fly fishing flies are needed. In my Montana fly fishing experience, veteran anglers filled me with answers. They said that some of these artificial flies are reusable, if they have not been much damaged by fish that were first caught with it. They will also last longer in any water condition and temperature because they are made of non-biological materials – unlike their natural counterparts where they easily breakdown in rough rivers or they might decompose quickly and fall apart.

Fly fishing has never has been interesting when the use of these fly fishing flies are handled by practiced and experienced hands. I was able to gather a nice list of observations from my Montana fly fishing escapade last fall. One of them is, when using these artificial flies, anglers will have an easier time of locating them in water because of their bright color. Also, most fish do not see like we do – they had a lower kind of spectrum in their sight which lowers down their visibility. With vivid colors emanating from this bait, fish do usually see it quicker than normal insects.

In times of financial securities such as these, hobbies like fly fishing are the best. Because of continued innovations on this sport, it has become more economical and yet the quality has not been compromised. By using fly fishing flies - throwing the line into the water will not hurt your pocket.
